Terms of use
The short version: enjoy the puzzles, share the site, don't resell the files. Last updated 21 October 2026.
1. Who we are
margaretpuzzles.com (the "site") is run by Margaret Holloway, a puzzle author based in California, USA. In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Margaret Holloway, and "you" means anyone who visits or uses the site.
By using the site, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal information. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
If you use the site for a school, library, club or other organization, you confirm that you're allowed to accept these terms on its behalf.
2. Who owns what
The puzzles, grids, word lists, clues, solutions, text, illustrations, page designs, the Margaret Puzzles name and the logo belong to Margaret Holloway, unless we say otherwise. They are protected by U.S. and international copyright and trademark law.
Apart from the printing permissions in section 3 and the ordinary copying your browser does to show you a page, these terms don't give you any rights in that material. Linking to any page on the site is always welcome. You may also show a book cover or quote a few lines from a book in a review, blog post or recommendation.
3. Free printables
The puzzles in the Puzzle Room and the free puzzle pack are free for personal, non-commercial use.
You may:
- download and print as many copies as you need for yourself and your household;
- print copies and hand them out to students in your class, or to members of your puzzle club, library group, care-home activity group or similar group, as long as nobody pays for the copies;
- show a puzzle on a screen during a lesson or club meeting.
Please don't:
- sell the puzzles, or put them in anything you sell, such as a book, bundle, activity pack, subscription box, paid course or paid download;
- share the files themselves by email, upload, file-sharing site, public drive, teacher-resource marketplace or social media. Share a link to the Puzzle Room instead;
- remove or cover the copyright line or the site name on any page;
- change a puzzle and present it as your own work;
- copy puzzles, word lists or clues in bulk, add them to a database, or use them to train or test an artificial intelligence system.
If you'd like to use the puzzles in a way these terms don't cover, including any commercial use, email [email protected] and ask. The answer may well be yes. Your permission to use the printables ends automatically if you break these rules.
4. Book details and prices
Margaret's books are sold through Amazon. Amazon, not us, sells you the book, takes your payment, ships it and handles returns and refunds under its own terms. Questions about an order go to Amazon customer service.
Prices and availability are set by Amazon and can change at any time, so this site doesn't show them. Check the Amazon page before you buy. We describe each book as accurately as we can, but if the site and the Amazon listing differ, the Amazon listing describes what you are buying. Sample pages show the style of a book and may not appear in it exactly as shown.
Found a mistake in a puzzle? Please tell us at [email protected] so it can be fixed in the next printing.
5. Links to Amazon and other sites
Buy buttons are plain links to Amazon with no affiliate tag, so we earn nothing from the click itself. Margaret receives an author royalty when a book sells, as any author does.
Amazon and Kindle are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates. This site is not run, sponsored or endorsed by Amazon. Once you follow a link to Amazon or any other website, that site's own terms and privacy policy apply, and we are not responsible for its content or practices.
6. The email list and contact form
Joining the email list is free and optional, and you can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email. Please sign up only with an email address you are entitled to use, and don't sign anyone else up without their permission. The Privacy Policy explains what we do with the details you give us.
7. Using the site fairly
Please don't:
- use the site in a way that breaks any law;
- try to hack, overload or disrupt the site, or get around its spam protection;
- use bots, scrapers or scripts to download content in bulk or to submit forms;
- send spam, abuse, threats or harmful code through the contact form;
- pretend to be someone else.
We may block access from anyone who does these things.
8. Ideas and messages you send
We love hearing puzzle ideas, theme suggestions and corrections. If you send one, you agree that we may use it freely, in books, printables or on the site, without paying you or crediting you. We will never publish your name, email address or message without asking you first.
Please don't send anything confidential, or any work you want to keep for yourself.
9. Puzzle accuracy and no guarantees
Every puzzle is checked carefully, but mistakes can slip through. The site, the printables and everything on them are provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promises or warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don't promise that the site will always be available or free of errors, viruses or interruptions.
Puzzles are for fun. Anything on the site about puzzles being good for the mind is general information, not medical, health or professional advice.
10. Limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for any lost data, profits or opportunities, arising from your use of the site or the printables; and
- our total liability for all claims relating to the site or the printables is limited to US$50.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, gross negligence or willful misconduct, or any liability that cannot be limited under the law that applies to you, including consumer protection law. Because some places don't allow certain exclusions, some of the limits above may not apply to you.
If you break these terms and someone brings a claim against us because of it, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of dealing with that claim.
11. Copyright concerns
If you believe something on the site infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with:
- a description of your work;
- where the material appears on the site;
- your name and contact details; and
- a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized, and that your notice is accurate.
We will look into every notice promptly. If you see Margaret's puzzles being sold or shared somewhere else, we'd be grateful if you let us know.
12. Changes to the site and these terms
We may change, pause or remove any part of the site or the printables at any time. We may also update these terms. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when they last changed, and the version on this page applies from that date. If a change is significant, we'll say so at the top of this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
13. Governing law and disputes
These terms, and any dispute about the site or the printables, are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, and applicable U.S. federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
If you have a problem, please email us first. Most things can be sorted out quickly, and we'll try in good faith to resolve it within 30 days. If we can't, any dispute will be decided only by the state or federal courts located in San Diego County, California, and you and we agree to those courts' jurisdiction. Either of us may instead bring a claim in small claims court if it qualifies.
If you live outside the United States, you keep any rights that the consumer laws of your home country give you and that cannot be waived by agreement.
14. The legal odds and ends
These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the site. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later. You may not transfer your rights under these terms to anyone else. Headings are for convenience only.
